Writing with a Purpose

writing with purposeWriting is a love/hate form of communication for many. Putting your thoughts into words on a screen can be daunting for a lot of people, but chances are those individuals can carry a conversation without skipping a beat. Luckily, you don’t have to be a master wordsmith to create a compelling, straightforward and informative blog post. Here are a few tips to follow to bring purpose into your writing, attract more readers and build an online community:

Write About Interests

If something is interesting to you, there’s a 99.9 percent chance that someone else is too! While you don’t want to forget about your end goal as a real estate agent–selling homes, your interests are a huge asset to your blog. Writing about things you are interested in will innately make the post more readable. If you are passionate about a specific topic, it’s going to show in your writing whether you’re a seasoned blogger or not.

When brainstorming topics, think about what you love to do with your free time. Maybe it’s golfing, going to the gym, playing with your pets, growing a garden, etc. Now, think about how you can integrate these topics into your blog posts. Instead of writing about the nine holes you played this weekend, consider writing about the awesome features of your favorite course or even creating a list of the top courses in the area.

Think Back to College

Remember writing a thesis statement, body paragraphs and a conclusion for college reports? While it doesn’t have to be so segmented, this is still a great formula to follow. Tell your audience what type of information you are going to give them in the introduction, discuss that information and then remind them of what you previously talked about. Stick to a loose format of this formula, and try to make sure you aren’t getting too redundant.

Be Yourself

Sometimes just stating the facts and figures is appropriate, such as in a local real estate market update, but you should always maintain your personality and style in each and every blog post–even the data-heavy ones! As a real estate agent, you’re trying to attract home buyers and sellers with your blog posts. Remember that these individuals have stumbled upon your blog for one reason or another and they want to feel as though a human is on the other end.

In the age of the internet, we still need to be sure that we have a virtual personality when writing. It’s not hard to overthink how to write or what to write about, but being genuine and passionate is a great place to start. Here at TRIBUS we strive to bring life into technology, bridging the gap between the two.
